When playing the Coding Pirates Game you learn to use symbols to program a path on a map for Captain Hack to reach the treasure. The game naturally progresses, and more skills are learned as you play through the game. From moving forward, to navigating by if-statements and utilizing loop sequences.
The game focuses on exploiting the visual benefits of coding instead of using text-based programming. This allows the younger players to join in, though to achieve three stars in all the levels, players must have some insight regarding how to use the fewest codebits to navigate the pirate through the shortest route. The game doesn’t need any introduction, though we recommend that teachers play through the game before using it in the classroom. Learners should play the game alone or in pairs, e.g. using the Pair Programming paradigm.
